PROJECT SUMMARY FOR 98-JN-FX-0018 (S-4)

The San Luis Obispo County Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (here after referred to as SLO Prevention Alliance) is a county-wide coalition composed of representatives of local area partnerships and other groups concerned with alcohol and other drug prevention. The mission of this Coalition is to establish a county-wide forum for dialog, training, information exchange, advocacy, resource development, media advocacy and action to prevent alcohol, tobacco and other drug-related problems among both youth and adults of San Luis Obispo County. The strategy of the proposed project is to build upon the success of the existing San Luis Obispo Substance Abuse Prevention Alliance (Coalition) and its activities in alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) primary prevention conducted collaboratively with established area partnerships. During the previous year of OJJDP funding, the Prevention Alliance successfully completed all of the projects outlined in its third year plan. The SLO Prevention Alliance has been a key element in promoting successful local activities to a county-wide audience, providing training to support those programs, coordinating sustainability plans to local partnerships, and providing financial assistance through Drug and Alcohol Services for promising local ATOD prevention programs. The SLO Prevention Alliance has been the broad based coalition that provides the arena for local partnerships to share, learn and grow.
