Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will partner with Michigan Council of Youth Justice to identify and assess programs, host listening tours to gather feedback from justice-served youth and their families, employ structured decision-making tools to implement validated risk and needs screening and assessment tools for equitable decision-making, and develop training programs to support implementation and educate state and community partners. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services will collaborate with partners to develop and implement training programs for local courts and multidisciplinary teams on best practices, evidence-based programs, trauma-informed care, cultural competence, and quality assurance. As part of the process to encourage youth and family engagement, the project will engage in listening tours across the state to make sure community voice is heard throughout the process. Additionally, the program has committed funds to paying youth and families with lived experience for their time to ensure that individuals are able to participate throughout the process.
