Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $1,000,000)

The Sodus Central School District will work with the Wayne County Partnership to better support migrant farmworkers and their families in Wayne County. This proposal welcomes Ibero to the Wayne County Partnership and adds Ibero to the Wayne County Community Schools effort as a partner specially equipped to support our bilingual students and families. Wayne County schools need case managers that can specifically help English Language Learners (ELL), and Ibero has more than fifty years of history serving the Latino community in the Rochester area. By focusing on six districts with increasing levels of poverty situated in high needs rural areas with an increasing number of English Language Learners, the program will impact over 2,000 students with comprehensive services. Ibero’s staff will help train Law Enforcement, Probation, school staff and other community agencies in culturally responsive strategies and support the development of restorative practices alongside Wayne County Pre-Trial and Finger Lakes Community Action. Cross-sector training, shared teams at the student, school and county levels and shared data create hinges for our collaborative effort to reduce violence and hold out hope for traditionally disenfranchised youth, and young people striving to live positively after experiencing trauma and living in chronic rural poverty. Finger Lakes Community Action will hire Family and Community Engagement Associates and Wayne County Pre-Trial will hire a case manager supported by a Community Schools Program manager. The "Place to Belong" initiative uses data to identify disparity, systematic teaming to group champions and cohesive practices unified through cross-sector training to partner directly with families for the well-being and safety of our young people.
