Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $764,508)

The Dallas County Commission will implement the Dallas County Family Preservation Program. The purpose is to develop a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed, best practices family-based alternative sentencing program for justice-involved parents/primary caregivers and their children and youth in Selma/Dallas County, Alabama. The expected outcomes include the development of a multi-disciplinary team to identify potential parents/primary caregivers early to engage, enroll, and provide resources and skills necessary to move cases from the traditional docket to alternative sentencing, enhance the well-being of children, youth, and families by empowering them with sustainable skills, development of healthy life skills, build upon strengths and address potential challenges, increase supportive services, and reduce parental incarceration in Dallas County, Alabama.
