Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $4,000,000)
The National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP) and the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges (NCJFCJ) will provide comprehensive training and technical assistance (TTA) to juvenile drug treatment courts (JDTCs) that emphasize accessible substance use and behavioral health treatment and recovery services. The proposed project will build and enhance the knowledge and skills of JDTCs and treatment providers in implementing practices informed by the findings of the JDTC Guidelines Research and Evaluation Study, evidence-based interventions, and experts knowledgeable in adolescent development, trauma-informed care, substance use, and co-occurring disorders, adolescent recovery supports, and treatment approaches that make up the continuum of care. Under the proposed project, six objectives will be achieved: (1) assess and address the national JDTC behavioral health training needs; (2) provide JDTCs with local and regional TTA that includes assessment, strategic planning, and assistance with practice implementation and evaluation; (3) assist OJJDP in identifying promising, innovative and effective adolescent recovery programs and assist individual JDTCs with establishing and sustaining JDTC-adolescent recovery service partnerships; (4) coordinate and collaborate with the OJJDP Opioid Affected Youth Initiative, Tribal Youth Resource Center, and Family Drug Treatment Court TTA Providers; (5) coordinate and collaborate with the BJA National Drug Court Resource Center; and (6) participate in OJJDP-directed TTA provider activities corresponding to the JDTC TTA program.
