Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $501,862)
Girls Empowerment Network, in partnership with The Excellence and Advancement Foundation and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department propose to build on existing best practices from The Girls Empowerment Network Girl Connect program to pilot an enhanced version of the program, Girl Connect for Juvenile Justice Involved Adolescents, that focuses on reducing recidivism through stress management, growth mindset, failure and resiliency, communication, and healthy friendships. The initial population will be girls between the age of 10-19 at the Mclennan County State Juvenile Correctional Facility in Mart, TX and after the first pilot, the program will grow to reach additional system impacted girls in Texas. The projected goal is to reach at least 200 juvenile justice involved adolescent girl across a 36-month period.
