This one-hour virtual training via Zoom will address death by suicide among Black youth. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, suicide is the third leading cause of death for Black youth. Suicide rates have doubled among Black Americans since 1980.
According to a recent study, the data also show that 44% of Black, non-Hispanic respondents report more than one adverse mental or behavioral health symptom compared to almost 38% of whites, and 40% of all respondents. The question becomes why?
The content of this training will give participants a synopsis of why. We will take a historical journey from segregation to integration, family attachment to detachment, alcohol to drugs, jail to mass incarceration, and now self-destruction has become a major issue.
