The transition to adulthood represents a critical moment in the lives of youth involved in foster care. Support from caring peers and adults can make all the difference between a transition with dire circumstances or one in which a young person can thrive, and the lifelong consequences in either case are significant. Child welfare and mentoring practitioners alike have therefore recognized the need for comprehensive individualized transition support for youth as they exit foster care.
This webinar will explore the roles that mentors can play in promoting a successful transition, conditions under which relationships can thrive, and considerations of mentoring as part of a healthy ecosystem of services and supports. Our esteemed guest, Sixto Cancel, himself experienced this transition and also has direct practice experience assisting youth in this rite of passage.
