OJJDP Welcomes Connecticut and Nebraska’s Return to the Title II Formula Grants Program
After a 5-year hiatus, Connecticut and Nebraska have rejoined OJJDP’s Formula Grants program, receiving a combined total of more than $1.2 million in fiscal year 2023 funding. Formula grant awards go directly to states and territories, enabling them to implement comprehensive juvenile justice plans based on their unique needs.
Participating states submit 3-year plans outlining what they will do with the funding and how they will meet program requirements, including compliance with the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act’s four core requirements: deinstitutionalizing status offenders, separating youth from incarcerated adults, removing youth from adult jails and lockups, and addressing racial and ethnic disparities.
Nearly every jurisdiction eligible for OJJDP’s Formula Grants program participates, OJJDP Administrator Liz Ryan noted. “Formula grant funding helps communities increase safety and protect kids,” she said. “We are thrilled when states rejoin the program.”
