OJJDP Holds Listening Session on Family-Based Alternatives to Sentencing

OJJDP - Working for Youth Justice and Safety

OJJDP will hold a virtual listening session on January 24-25, 2022, to explore family-based alternatives to sentencing programs.

OJJDP awarded $1.5 million under the Family-Based Alternative Sentencing Program, which builds capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government and federally recognized Tribal governments to implement new, or enhance existing, alternative sentencing programs for parents in the criminal justice system to improve family outcomes.

Participants will learn about the different types of family-based sentencing alternatives in the U.S. and hear personal stories about the impact of incarceration from youth and parents. The goal of the listening session is to assess gaps and challenges in the field and discuss best practices.
