The Office of Justice Programs has posted a new blog highlighting how the OJJDP-funded National Gang Center (NGC) and OJJDP’s Comprehensive Gang Model helped to reduce violent crime that involved a known gang member or gang associate dropped by nearly 56 percent in Fort Pierce, Fla., from 2016 to 2017. The blog describes how NGC and OJJDP successfully worked with leaders in St. Lucie County, Fla., to implement the Comprehensive Gang Model in Fort Pierce, which included providing technical training. The blog also highlights OJJDP’s grant funding that helped Fort Pierce leaders form an intervention team to assist in youth job training, drug treatment, mentoring, and policing. "The progress in Fort Pierce is an example of the progress we can achieve," said OJJDP Administrator Caren Harp.
