Now Available: Guidance on the Detection & Mitigation of COVID-19 in Confinement Facilities

As part of the Biden-Harris Administration's ongoing COVID-19 response efforts, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), in partnership with the Department of Justice, is providing financial assistance to Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Prevention and Control of Emerging Infectious Diseases (ELC) funding recipients to respond to COVID-19 in confinement facilities, including juvenile justice facilities, within their jurisdictions.

A total of $700,000,000, made available through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, will be awarded to the current 64 ELC recipients according to a formula based on the recipient's jurisdictional incarcerated population.

The CDC has released Detection & Mitigation of COVID-19 in Confinement Facilities Guidance to provide further information.

The Guidance highlights areas such as:

  • Allowable costs
  • Process for budget submission
