The Healing Indigenous Lives: Native Youth Town Halls report is available online. The report highlights juvenile justice and public safety concerns and recommendations from Tribal youth ages 14–24.
Held in July 2020, the youth-led town hall meetings are part of the Healing Indigenous Lives Initiative, supported by OJJDP and United National Indian Tribal Youth (UNITY). More than 155 Native youth participated and provided feedback. Their input will help OJJDP develop programs to improve outcomes for Native youth, enhance public safety, promote accountability, and empower communities.
In fiscal year 2021, OJJDP awarded $14.2 million for Tribal youth initiatives. OJJDP continues to support Tribal youth programs and initiatives, including the Tribal Youth Program and Juvenile Tribal Healing to Wellness Courts under the Department of Justice's Fiscal Year 2022 Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation.
