The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) has released two reports on new methods to measure the prevalence of crime using BJS's National Crime Victimization Survey, the nation’s primary source of information on criminal victimization:
- A New Measure of Prevalence for the National Crime Victimization Survey describes a new method for estimating prevalence rates of violent crime that will be adopted beginning with BJS’ Criminal Victimization, 2023
- National Crime Victimization Survey: Prevalence Estimation Methods, a BJS-funded third-party report prepared by RTI International, compares several alternative prevalence estimation methods.
