The feature article in this issue is on Attorney General Lynch's address to the National Summit on Preventing Youth Violence, and other "special features" report on the Department of Justice's observation of National Missing Children's Day, the OJJDP administrator's remarks at the Coalition for Juvenile Justice Conference, the Justice Department's sponsoring of national law enforcement training on child exploitation, and "Upcoming Events."
On May 11-13, 2015, the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention held its fourth National Summit in Arlington,VA Attorneyh General Loretta E. Lynch gave the keynote address. She praised the efforts of the National Forum cites and the reductions in homicide and juvenile violent crime rates in the majority of the cities in 2014. Other cabinet secretaries and agency heads also gave presentations at the summit. This year's summit theme was "Reducing Violence/Building Community: From Promise to Practice." In addition to the nine forum cities that reported homicide and violent-crime rate reductions in 2014, non-fatal shootings also decreased from previous years in these cities. Summit panels and workshops afforded attendees opportunities to discuss specifics of their violence-prevention work with Federal officials, local specialists, and other experts. "News in Brief" pertains to the convening of the State policy meeting on Defending Childhood, a report on arresting parents in the presence of children, Internet Safety Month, a Guide for Working with Youth in confinement, a youth focused policing agency self-assessment tool, a paper that addresses reduction in the length of stay in youth facilities, and a website and curriculum guide on support for LGBT youth in the juv
