Abstract

The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) newsletter is published online, bimonthly, and discusses current OJJDP activities, Tribal Connections, publications, funding opportunities, and upcoming events. The March/April 2023 Issue features a top story on OJJDP-supported reentry programs that give justice-involved youth a second chance and highlights the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice use of grant money for reentry programming that emphasizes family engagement, mentoring, and workforce development. Two other featured articles commemorate the injustices endured by the “Scottsboro Boys,” and OJJDP Administrator, Liz Ryan’s remarks at the National Conference on Juvenile Justice. The Special Features section includes three articles on increasing child homicide rates, children’s advocacy centers’ role in keeping youth out of the justice system, and reentry programs’ role in responding to youth needs. News in Brief section includes seven articles on a variety of topics, including youth health and well-being trends, impacts of exposure to childhood violence on future justice system involvement, factors affecting youth-reported sexual victimization in juvenile justice facilities, an online resource for children’s advocacy centers in developing medical programs, AMBER Alert in Indian Country, and OJJDP model programs guide’s addition of programs for youth mentoring, antibullying, and substance abuse.
