Abstract
One featured event described is OJJDP’s co-hosting of the National Mentoring Summit, during which OJJDP staff led and participated in workshops that focused on OJJDP-sponsored research, including effective mentoring programs and practices for at-risk youth. Another featured event profiled in this issue is the White House’s launching of the Asian American and Pacific Islander Bullying Prevention Task Force, which will address the bullying of Asian-American and Pacific-Islander youth, which is a growing problem in the United States. Another featured event described is the Department of Justice’s and Department of Education’s co-release of the Correctional Education Guidance Package, which is an effort to improve the quality of educational services for confined youth. Also featured is the Justice Department’s partnering with Facebook and Bing to expand the reach of AMBER Alerts regarding kidnapped children. Upcoming events related to OJJDP work are also described. “News in Brief” reports briefly on OJJDP activities and other activities pertinent to juvenile justice. New publications are summarized, and activities of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice are reported.
