Feature articles focus on the critical role youth played during the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s, and an OJJDP-supported program in Miami, FL, that brings together schools, families, and local service providers to reduce community violence. Another article highlights a Newsweek opinion column by Administrator Liz Ryan on the need for youth-serving programs to adopt evidence-based approaches rooted in the science of adolescent development. Additional stories report on the path a North Carolina youth followed from secure detention to a promising career in academia; the first graduate of the Tule River Tribe of California’s Juvenile Healing and Wellness Center program; and the expansion of OJJDP’s partnership with AmeriCorps supporting community-based programs that provide reentry services to youth who have been involved in the justice system.
