Prepared with the assistance of young adults who were themselves abducted as children, this report is designed to assist and help others who experience abduction begin their road to recovery and find empowerment.
Abstract
This survival book is divided into five sections, each dealing with different aspects of the personal journey from abduction to empowerment. The first section focuses on the journey itself and what one might expect along the way. The second discusses finding those who can help one through one's personal journey. The third section is about retaking control of one's life and making the choices that are right for them. The fourth section talks about roadblocks that might arise in the process, and some possible ways to help in handling them successfully. The fifth and final section deals with finding the "new normal" in one's life. Each section includes a personal letter from one of the young adult survivors with their thoughts to help those through their journey. The book also contains quotes from these young adult survivors and other survivors of abduction. This book was created for and by survivors of abduction, with the guidance and assistance of the U.S. Department of Justice, Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
