This National Gang Center article highlights initiatives that seek to build up youth, create strong community connections and deter them from involvement in violence.
Many of these initiatives work to divert youth from the juvenile justice system or provide specific support for justice-involved young people who returning to the community. These efforts develop an understanding of young people's strengths, interests, and potential as well as the process to help them realize these attributes. Initiatives featured in the article work to connect with youth, seek their insights, and provide meaningful opportunities. The approaches highlighted in the article can assist other youth violence reduction programs with assessing and refining how they support justice-impacted youth in their communities.
