Description

OJJDP expects applicants for funding under this solicitation to develop program activities based on the core strategies of the Comprehensive Gang Model as outlined below.

This solicitation contains two categories: (1) Intervention and (2) Suppression. Details for each category are provided below.

Category 1: Intervention. OJJDP-2020-17171

This category supports intervention strategies that can dissuade youth from joining gangs and help them discontinue their involvement in gangs. Proposed strategies should build upon the principles of the following core strategies in the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model:

  • Community Mobilization.
  • Opportunities Provision.
  • Social Intervention.

Category 2: Suppression. OJJDP-2020-17172

This category supports focused deterrence and suppression strategies aimed at preventing and reducing youth gang violence. Applicant organizations are encouraged to develop and implement a variety of suppression strategies aligned with the principles of the Suppression core strategy in the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model.

Coordination with Project Safe Neighborhoods. The OJJDP FY 2020 Comprehensive Anti-Gang Programs for Youth Program is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) suite of programs, which is focused on reducing violent crime. These initiatives coordinate proactively with the PSN team in the district of the respective U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) to enhance collaboration and strengthen commitment to reducing violent crime.  Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate a willingness to engage with the respective district of the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO), where violent crime reduction is a priority, for the purpose of potential collaboration.  Applicants that demonstrate how the USAO has been engaged and the role it will play in the event that funding is awarded will receive priority consideration.
