Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $500,000)

The Juvenile Justice System Enhancements program will support efforts to enhance systems that address public safety by holding offenders accountable and supporting child victims. This includes the juvenile justice system as well as those agencies responsible for investigating and prosecuting online child exploitation.

The City of Chicago Police Department (CPD), Youth Investigations Division (YID) proposes to strengthen the capacity of YID detectives to conduct multifaceted investigations on online child exploitation to prevent child sexual abuse and ensure the prosecution of offenders. CPD is seeking to implement new programs and enhance existing services at the Juvenile Intervention Support Center. These efforts include increasing the number of social service partners and wraparound case management services, and increasing capacity by providing detectives with training and technology to investigate sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
