Grantees are funded under this initiative to develop program activities based on the core strategies of the Comprehensive Gang Model. Category 1, Intervention, supports intervention strategies that can dissuade youth from joining gangs and help them discontinue their involvement in gangs. Proposed strategies are built upon the principles of the following core strategies in the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model: Community Mobilization, Opportunities Provision, and Social Intervention.

The Housing Authority of the City of Tampa, aka, Tampa Housing Authority (THA) will implement the THA Success Initiative (TSI) to provide an array of proven services for youth ages 7-17 in Tampa’s high-risk communities. Its proposed approach builds strategies on the OJJDP Comprehensive Gang Model related to prevention activities that prevent and/or reduce youth violence and exposure to violence. Through TSI, THA expects to serve at least 375 youth over the three-year funding period. Youth will be identified from the THA property sites and surrounding communities. The youth will participate in trauma-informed, positive youth development programming that includes a case plan for each youth, out-of-school time activities, tutoring, mentoring, and recreational programming. TSI will work with the Circuit 13 Juvenile Justice Board to incorporate the Comprehensive Gang Model in Hillsborough County, Florida. CA/NCF
