Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $3,750)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Supported activities and efforts may include planning and administration, establishing, operating, coordinating, and evaluating projects directly or through grants and contracts with public and private agencies for the development of more effective education, training, research, prevention, diversion, treatment, and rehabilitation programs in the area of juvenile delinquency and programs to improve the juvenile justice system as found in section 221 of the JJDP Act.

The Virgin Islands Law Enforcement Planning Commission (LEPC) is the designated state agency for supervising the preparation and administration of the Title II Formula Grant Program 3 year plan. The purpose of the Virgin Islands Title II Formula funds is to address compliance monitoring and to maintain full compliance with the JJDP Act of 2002. LEPC will also continue to educate and provide technical assistance to all secure and non-secure facilities territory wide and any programs within the juvenile justice system.
