This program will promote and expand services in detention and correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals and their minor children younger than age 18, and provide services to children of incarcerated parents by facilitating access to services that support their needs. This program will provide states and localities with funding to implement positive family engagement strategies and activities that address the needs of incarcerated parents and their minor children.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice will use funding to support a partnership between the state and county corrections department and mental health and family support service providers who work with the children of incarcerated parents and their caregivers in the community. The goal of the project is to develop, strengthen, and expand a coordinated system for the provision of programs and services that support the needs of incarcerated parents, their children, and the parents/caregivers of the child during the period of incarceration, and improve communication between inmates and families during the reentry phase in order to support a successful transition.
