Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $812,534)
The OJJDP Family Drug Court Program seeks to build the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to sustain existing family drug courts or establish new family drug courts. Category 1: Enhancing Family Drug Courts will support courts that are fully operational (for at least 1 year) to enhance services of existing family drug courts.
The Suffolk County Family Treatment Court (SCFTC) will enhance its current community supervised visitation and implementation of no-cost alcohol monitoring devices to ultimately enhance family bonds and expedite long-lasting permanency. The team will implement a skilled social worker to not only provide therapeutic supervised visitation, but also train and support the team in the implementation of the model. This project will also address the gap of providing alcohol monitoring devices to participants. With the addition of alcohol monitoring devices, the project will be able to provide no-cost devices without the burden of long travel to obtain them. The project goal is to increase parenting time; enhance family bonds; and lead to expedited, long-term reunification and permanency. CA/NCF
