Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $500,000)
The Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Program builds the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to enhance existing drug courts or implement new juvenile drug treatment courts (JDTCs) for individuals with substance abuse problems or co-occurring mental health disorders, including histories of trauma. Under Category 1: Juvenile Drug Treatment Court Planning and Implementation, funding will support jurisdictions that have identified a need to establish a JDTC.
Richland County seeks to establish a new JDTC. The proposed 4-year planning and implementation grant will assist in developing a strategic plan and timeline, create policies, and implement strategic training to help the JDTC deliver the program effectively. The focus of the Richland County JDTC program will be to provide treatment and court-based supervision to eligible, substance-using juvenile offenders with the goal of reducing substance use and recidivism. The program will align with JDTC best practices to meet the needs of youth and families and ensure public safety. CA/NCF
