Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $745,969)

This program will promote and expand services in detention and correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals and their minor children younger than age 18, and provide services to children of incarcerated parents by facilitating access to services that support their needs. This program will provide states and localities with funding to implement positive family engagement strategies and activities that address the needs of incarcerated parents and their minor children.

The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services expand services in Ohio’s correctional facilities to incarcerated individuals and their minor children in the Mansfield, Richland, and Dayton areas. Objectives include expanding services to meet the needs of the incarcerated parent and minor child; engaging incarcerated parents and their children through an expansion of services; and supporting the delivery of transitional reentry services, including the expansion of current Ohio Children of Incarcerated Parents Initiative efforts by implementing transitional programs and services to engage incarcerated parents and their minor children toward positive family engagement.
