Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2020, $670,000)

The OJJDP Family Drug Court Program seeks to build the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to sustain existing family drug courts or establish new family drug courts. Category 1: Enhancing Family Drug Courts will support courts that are fully operational (for at least 1 year) to enhance services of existing family drug courts.

Del Norte County in partnership with the Yurok tribe will support the expansion of a Joint Jurisdiction Family Wellness Court (JJFWC), recently launched last year. The JJFWC will establish and recruit two new positions to support the court committed solely to Yurok families, creating the ability to focus on the families’ individual needs. The program’s goal is to continue progress in providing parents with culturally appropriate treatment and recovery, keeping Native American children in their homes when possible, and keeping families and communities intact. The program’s overall vision is that Native American families will no longer be overrepresented in Del Norte County’s system. CA/NCF
