Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $925)
Congress passed the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) in 2003 with unanimous support from both parties. Congress intended that PREA would provide for the analysis of the incidence and effects of prison rape in Federal, State, and local institutions and to provide information, resources, recommendations, and funding to protect individuals from prison rape.
The Virgin Islands will use funding to provide PREA standard training by certified professionals that will provide staff and juvenile training and education within the Virgin Islands' youth detention and rehabilitation center. Funding will also be used to provide technology resources, such as cameras, around the facility to improve prevention and security.
