The Drug Treatment Courts Program builds the capacity of states, state and local courts, units of local government, and federally recognized tribal governments to enhance pre-existing drug courts or implement new drug courts for individuals with substance abuse problems or co-occurring mental health disorders. Category 2: Family Drug Courts Enhancement will support jurisdictions with a fully operational (for at least 1 year) family drug court to enhance the operation of the court.
The County of San Luis Obispo Drug and Alcohol Services, the Superior Court of San Luis Obispo, the Department of Social Services, and a community provider will implement an enhanced treatment program within their existing Family Treatment Court (FTC). This partnership will serve substance abusing parents who also have a Child Welfare Services case in San Luis Obispo County with a focus on opiate use disorders. Expansion of services to families with opiate use disorders participating in the FTC will provide case management; an evidence-based parenting program known as the Nurturing Parenting Program; outpatient behavioral health treatment interventions for the children; and a family based cognitive behavioral group curriculum known as Celebrating Families!
