Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2018, $222,708)

The Coordinated Tribal Assistance Solicitation (CTAS) serves as a single solicitation for existing tribal government-specific grant programs administered by the Office of Justice Programs (OJP), the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) and the Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention provides awards under CTAS Purpose Area 8 - Juvenile Healing to Wellness Courts. The overall purpose of this grant program is to support tribes seeking to develop a new Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court to respond to the alcohol and substance use issues of juveniles and young adults under the age of 21.

Tunica-Biloxi tribal youth are in need of culturally based, solution oriented alternatives to mitigate the effects that illegal drugs have had in the tribal community. Through the creation of a Tribal Healing to Wellness Court, the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe will be able to address substance and alcohol abuse among tribal youth by providing evidence-based cultural solutions as alternatives to current methods employed by parish/state criminal justice systems. The Tribal Court will implement the OJJDP Juvenile Drug Treatment Guidelines in developing a functional Juvenile Healing to Wellness Court. CA/NCF
