Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2017, $521,610)

This program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants and cooperative agreements for training and technical assistance to organizations that OJJDP designates. With OJJDP funding, the W. Haywood Burns Institute will provide a training and technical assistance program aimed at more effectively reducing racial and ethnic disparities in juvenile justice systems that will serve to: aid with the development of a collaboration of key stakeholders locally for systems change; identify key decision points in the system where disparities occur; collect and analyze data at various decision points and provide alternatives to incarceration; develop and implement plans to reduce racial and ethnic disparities; and monitor and evaluate the program's progress.
