Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $750,000)
This program aims to support and enhance efforts in more places to help catalyze and further the prevention and response to childrens exposure to violence and youth victimization and violence, especially gun and gang violence, through fully comprehensive approaches to violence and the promotion of well-being for youth.
The Wisconsin Council on Children and Families (WCCF) is partnering with the City of Madison on this initiative. Through a planning process guided by a well-respected nonprofit, WCCF will analyze delivery of services to improve coordination, identify gaps, and build capacity. WCCF will strengthen ties among community members and between the community and the services sector. A nationally recognized evaluator, the National Council on Crime and Delinquency (NCCD), will help the partners analyze strengths and weaknesses within the service system. NCCD will develop baseline data and a set of indicators to measure progress in service improvement and outcomes. A steering committee composed of the agencies that met to develop this proposal will guide the planning process. These include WCCF, NCCD, Dane County Madisons Northside: A Safe and Thriving Community, the City of Madison Human Services, Madison Metropolitan School District, Madison Police Department, Dane County Criminal Justice Council, and Public Health Madison/Dane County. An equal number of Northside Community stakeholders-community organizations and parents and youth representatives of the target population-will join them. Together they make up the Northside Collaborative. CA/NCF
