Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $394,174)
The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act and funds are made available as a result of the FY 2016 Department of Justice appropriations. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; prevention; and activities to address the core requirements and improvement of juvenile justice system operations and policies, as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.
New Mexicos Children, Youth and Families Department (CYFD) provides an array of services in local communities in partnership with public, private and non-profit agencies to address the needs of children and families. This is accomplished through New Mexicos juvenile delinquency prevention service spectrum, which is executed and delivered through a Continuum Site model established in twenty counties.
The objective of these Continuum Sites is to provide outreach, education, and services to youth at-risk of involvement with the juvenile justice system, as well as their families. The target population is juveniles arrested or referred to juvenile probation; or are at risk of such referral. The Continuum Sites are guided by local juvenile justice boards tasked with executing the goals and objectives of the Statewide Advisory Group (SAG), as well as to provide the SAG with feedback regarding issues, outcomes, and obstacles encountered at a community-based level.
