The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act and funds are made available as a result of the FY 2016 Department of Justice appropriations. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; prevention; and activities to address the core requirements and improvement of juvenile justice system operations and policies, as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.
The District's Juvenile Justice Advisory Group (JJAG) will focus on the following Title II Formula Grants Purpose Areas in the District: Compliance Monitoring; Delinquency Prevention; Disproportionate Minority Contact (DMC); Planning and Administration; Diversion; and State Advisory Group. JJAG, in partnership with stakeholders, will develop and strengthen preventive services designed to reduce the number of youth entering the juvenile justice system. Funds will be used to support best practices targeted to prevent delinquency and increase diversion. JJAG will not use funds to operate temporary or permanent juvenile correction, detention, or community corrections facilities. JJAG will also track the progress of each grantee by requesting data on a quarterly basis on information that directly aligns with OJJDPs performance measures, and submit performance measurements as required by the Data Collection and Technical Assistance Tool.
