Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $796,832)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act and funds are made available as a result of the FY 2016 Department of Justice appropriations. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; prevention; and activities to address the core requirements and improvement of juvenile justice system operations and policies, as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.

The Indiana Criminal Justice Institute (ICJI), the designated state agency for Indiana, is requesting FY 2016 Title II Formula Grant funding to enable Indiana to remain in compliance with the four Core Requirements of the JJDP Act. ICJI identified its plan priority areas based on data trends and experience and perspectives of expert staff in the field.

Continued funding will enable Indiana to maintain and enhance the progress made over the last year in the area of DMC and to meet the additional requirements as outlined by OJJDP. Funding will be limited to projects that are evidence-based or promising practices and that assist the State with maintaining compliance with the JJDP Act. The funding will be used to support the full-time staff that manage the FY16 Title II Formula Grants Program, as well as compliance monitoring staff. Funding will also support staff travel to attend conferences and trainings as required and recommended by OJJDP.
