The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act and funds are made available as a result of the FY 2016 Department of Justice appropriations. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; prevention; and activities to address the core requirements and improvement of juvenile justice system operations and policies, as found in section 223(a)(9) of the JJDP Act.

Louisiana’s 2016 Title II Formula Grants Plan Update is overseen by the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (LCLE). The goals and objectives of the LCLE in conjunction with the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Advisory Board are to increase the availability of prevention and intervention programs for at risk youth, juvenile justice system improvements, and maintain compliance with the four core requirements of the JJDP Act. This project plans to support both state and local efforts. In addition to the Planning and Administration and State Advisory Group allocations, the LCLE plans to fund the following program areas: Delinquency Prevention, Mental Health Services, School Programs, Compliance Monitoring, DMC, Diversion, Gender-Specific Services, Indian Tribe Programs, Juvenile Justice System Improvement, and Rural Area Juvenile Programs.
