Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2015, $483,333)
The OJJDP FY 2015 Second Chance Act Supporting Latino/a Youth from Out-of-Home Placement to the Community program will promote effective and successful reentry services for Latino/a youth who are transitioning back into their communities from secure confinement facilities, including out-of-home placement. This solicitation will fund mentoring and comprehensive transitional services that emphasize development of life and parenting skills in offenders who are Latino/a youth. This program is authorized pursuant to Section 211 of the Second Chance Act, P.L. 110-199.
Southwest Key Programs, Inc. (SKP) will provide a gender-responsive reentry program supporting 80 Latino/a youth using reentry support groups to address risk factors. SKP will provide comprehensive transitional and reentry services through the Un Puente al Hogar program. The goal of the Un Puente al Hogar program is to reduce recidivism and promote family and individual well-being for medium to high risk adjudicated Latino/a youth offenders through culturally specific, developmentally appropriate, trauma informed gender responsive transitional, reentry case management and mentoring services. SKP is dedicated to operating as a data-driven organization with an outcome-based performance evaluation process.
