Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $1,500,000)

The program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants and cooperative agreements for training and technical assistance to organizations that OJJDP designates.
The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), parent company to the National Gang Center (NGC) and the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) National Program Office, supports the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) to address gang-related issues by providing national leadership; information to policymakers; and resources, training, and technical assistance to practitioners.
The NGC is a resource for federal, state, local, and tribal entities as they address the multiple dimensions of violence brought about by gangs. The NGC advocates comprehensive, collaborative approaches designed to promote the well-being of youth and families, while enhancing public safety through prevention, intervention, and suppression programs and activities.
