This program furthers the Department's mission by providing grants and cooperative agreements for training and technical assistance to organizations that OJJDP designates.
The W. Haywood Burns Institute (the BI) proposes a technical assistance and training project aimed at effectively reducing racial and ethnic disparities (RED) in juvenile justice systems. This project seeks to achieve the following goals: (1) Assist state, local, and/or tribal governments in implementing reduction programs to address RED; (2) Improve the training and education of professionals addressing RED in juvenile justice systems at the state and local levels to develop their capacity to foster systems change; and (3) Identify promising and evidence-based strategies that have a sound theoretical basis and/or have demonstrated measurable success in reducing racial and ethnic disparities.
