Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $1,141,697)

This program furthers the Department's mission by providing national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency. OJJDP's Coordinated Assistance for States' project will provide states and communities with coordinated resources and training and technical assistance to assist in the planning, establishing, operating, coordinating, and assessing of delinquency prevention, intervention, and juvenile justice systems improvement projects.

The American Institute for Research (AIR) will work collaboratively with OJJDP to provide training and technical assistance within the topic areas under the Title II Formula Grants program, with emphasis on supporting the following topic areas and/or groups:

State and local ethnic and racial disparities reduction strategies;

State-level compliance monitoring of the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDP Act), which are deinstitutionalization of status offenders (DSO) (42 U.S.C. §223(a)(11), separation (42 U.S.C. §223(a)(12), jail removal (42 U.S.C. §223(a)(13), and disproportionate minority contact (DMC) (42 U.S.C. §223(a)(22);

State advisory groups (SAGs) appointed under the JJDP Act;

State, local, and tribal departments of juvenile justice and corrections, service providers, and private organizations that operate juvenile facilities;

Justice information sharing across juvenile justice, child welfare, mental health, and education systems; and

Emergency planning among state, local, and tribal juvenile justice residential facilities based on the principles outlined in Emergency Planning for Juvenile Justice Residential Facilities. CA/NCF
