Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $8,524)

Using OJJDP funds, Connecticut will provide $8,524 to help bring the executive branch of Connecticut's juvenile justice system into compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA). Through this project, the Connecticut Department of Children and Families will purchase and install a buzzer system, and train staff and residents to ensure that the residents of each housing unit are aware of changes in the composition of the gender supervision in accordance with standard 115.315 (d); purchase a training program and educational materials for education of residents to meet standard 115. 333; and invest in the agency's databases to provide a centralized database containing a reporting system for all PREA incident reports with potential for follow up documentation and automated notification to parties, which will allow the Department of Children and Families to meet standards 115.387, 115.388, and 115.389.
