The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.
The Kansas Department of Corrections Authority will use FY 14 formula funds to maintain compliance with the core requirements of the JJDPA Act. A statewide DMC assessment was conducted, beginning in 2012 through a competitive bid process, with Objective Advantage, LLC, a contracted research entity. Preliminary reports have been distributed and the final report was completed June 30, 2013. The report discusses the reasons for DMC and offers recommendations to address it in KS.
FY 14 funds will support: DMC at the local level; the JDAI initiative, which addresses Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders and DMC; the Native American Pass Through; and a compliance monitoring contract with Juvenile Justice Associates, LLC.
