The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services will use Title II Formula funds to provide delinquency prevention programming and ensure compliance with the four core requirements of the JJDP Act, 2002. The Juvenile Justice Programs Office in conjunction with the Nevada Juvenile Justice Commission will provide funding, oversight and technical assistance to local probation departments, not-for-profit agencies and state correctional facilities to provide the much needed programming to youth involved or at risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system. The Juvenile Justice Programs Office worked closely with the Nevada Juvenile Justice Commission and the Nevada Association of Juvenile Justice Administrators to identify the top priorities for the Formula Program Areas: Disproportionate Minority Contact, Native American Programming, Alternatives to Detention, Aftercare/Reentry, Mental Health Services, Substance Abuse, and Delinquency Prevention.
