The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.
The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (FDJJ) will use FY 14 Formula grant funds to address disproportionate minority contact in the state; local and state juvenile delinquency prevention; and the need for appropriate services supportive of gender. The FDJJ will address disproportionate minority contact by educating and training stakeholders and holding listening sessions with the most affected. Other program plan activities include: school programs to prevent truancy; identifying and addressing issues regarding Indian Tribal communities; implementing alternative programs instead of referrals to the juvenile justice system; developing system improvement initiatives, conducting research and evaluating effective programming for youth; developing court services to enhance the knowledge of court personnel; implementing community assessment centers; and conducting compliance monitoring services to ensure compliance with the requirements of the JJDP Act.
