Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $414,903)
The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.
The Connecticut Office of Policy and Management (OPM) will use FY14 Formula grant funds to support projects in the areas of law-related education, improving school attendance, addressing disproportionate minority contact (DMC) through enhancing police-youth interactions, and improving the system through research, training and technical assistance. Program objectives are to: decrease the numbers of students attending less than 90% of school days (chronic non-attendees); increase the average daily attendance for students served by the program; heighten awareness of the importance of school attendance for school personnel, students and parents; and increase the use of student attendance data by school districts. Connecticut OPM will also increase the capacity of state and local governments and public and private agencies to conduct effective juvenile justice and delinquency prevention programs through the provision of training, technical assistance and evaluation support.
