Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2013, $491,915)

The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements. Program areas may include: planning and administration; state advisory group allocation; compliance monitoring; disproportionate minority contact; juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes; prevention of substance abuse by juveniles; prevention of serious and violent crimes by juveniles; prevention of juvenile gang involvement and illegal youth gang activities; prevention of delinquent acts and identification of youth at risk of delinquency; and improvement of juvenile justice system operations, policies, and procedures including establishing a system of graduated sanctions, treatment programs, and aftercare.

The Missouri Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the State Advisory Group, plans to utilize FY2013 Title II Formula Grant funds to continue funding the following program areas: (2) Alternatives to Detention; (6) Compliance Monitoring; 9) Delinquency Prevention; (10) Disproportionate Minority Contact; and (13) Gender Specific Services.

All other funding will be used to ensure compliance with the core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act, planning and administration, and to support Missouri's State Advisory Group. Programs must incorporate, with the highest degree of fidelity, model programs, promising practices, and/or best practices. Subgrantees will submit monthly performance reports of output and outcome data, collected in accordance with the DCTAT, along with a summary of activities for the month. NCA/NCF
