Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2014, $843,449)
The Formula Grants Program is authorized under the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act of 1974, as amended. The purpose of this program is to support state and local delinquency prevention and intervention efforts and juvenile justice system improvements through a range of administration, compliance and program activities including those that address juvenile justice issues for Native American Indian tribes.
The North Carolina Department of Public Safety (DPS)/Governor's Crime Commission plans to use FY14 formula funds to support programs that will reduce juvenile delinquency through prevention and intervention strategies. North Carolina is out of compliance on deinstitutionalization of status offenders and DPS plans to use required funding to bring North Carolina in compliance with the JJDPA of 2002 by reducing the number of DSO violations. Proposed projects include: diversion, intake and assessment procedures, and continuous evaluations. Prevention and intervention activities for youth 10-14 include problem solving training for parents and youth to increase parenting skills and build communication between parents and youth. NCA/NCF
