The OJJDP FY 2013 Title II Formula Grants Program in the State of Alabama is administered by Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs. The State Advisory Group awards grants to local units of government, non-profits, and faith-based organizations to implement evidenced-based model programming intended to impact priority juvenile justice needs. Funds will be allocated to new projects and continuation projects that will address the following purpose areas:
- Compliance Monitoring
- Deinstitutionalization of Status Offenders
- Disproportionate Minority Contact
Specifically, the State will focus their efforts on addressing jail compliance monitoring and minority overrepresentation in the justice system as the means to address the four core requirements of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Act (JJDPA).
To achieve the program's goals and objectives, the State-level activities will focus on implementing system improvements designed to upgrade court technology and data collection methods for processing juvenile case information on a real-time basis, and on monitoring the State's jail facilities to ensure compliance with the core requirements of the JJDPA.
The local-level activities will focus on implementing prevention and intervention programs designed to provide youth mentoring, parent and family unity assistance, truancy and dropout prevention, graduated sanctions for the courts to use when adjudicating juveniles, and short-term transitional residential placement options for youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
